Self-confidence is essential, and we would never want you to schedule services with us without being well-informed. Below we will share all things Botox, the facts, the fiction, and the FAQs. We are here to help you make the best decision for your body.

The Truth About Botox

There are a lot (and we mean A LOT) of misconceptions about Botox out there. You might hear mythical statements like these:

“Botox makes people look so fake.”

“You won’t be able to smile or laugh after Botox.”

“You are still young - you don’t need Botox!”

But rest assured that such statements are not well-founded, we’re going to debunk common misconceptions one by one:

1. Botox makes you look fake, overdone, and expressionless

The proof is in the pudding. When you are given injections by a licensed professional and expert in facial anatomy, you won’t end up looking like someone else...you will just look like the best version of yourself - no stuck or shocked expressions, just tasteful subtle changes to help you turn back the clock.

At The Art of Aesthetic Med Spa, you will only receive injections by a licensed award-winning injector, Kim Chapman. She is dedicated to making all of her patients look and feel their best.

As the first FDA-approved treatment for reducing fine lines and wrinkles, Botox is tried and true. You can feel at ease knowing you are in safe, capable hands with top-of-the-line treatments.

2. Botox freezes your face forever

Botox works by reducing muscle activity underneath the skin temporarily so that the injected muscles can relax which means wrinkles have a chance to soften and smooth out. For this reason, we recommend repeated treatments (and pairing with other services like Microneedling with RF) to benefit from the wrinkle-reducing effects. Results differ from person to person, but typically an injection will last 3 to 4 months.

3. Botox isn’t for younger people

Botox has a connotation that you can only use after you notice visible signs of aging. In reality, the best time to consider getting Botox is in your 20’s long before crow’s feet, or nasolabial folds have a chance to set in.

Preventative Botox has become popular among younger men and women; statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show that Botox treatments have increased by 28 percent since 2010 amongst 20 to 29-year-olds and with good reason!

When correctly administered to younger clients, lower-dose treatments provide preventative protection. Meaning you’re less likely to need Botox treatments in your future.

4. Botox is toxic

The scientific name for Botox, aka “botulinum toxin,” is unforgiving.  It’s natural to conclude that Botox is toxic. However, Botox Cosmetic is the first to be approved by the FDA. Despite its name, Botox Cosmetic is derived from a plant protein, completely safe when injected properly.

5. Botox is only for women

Not at all! Botox Cosmetic does not discriminate. Over the past three years, it’s reported that men received over one million treatments of Botox. We believe that everyone has the right to look and feel their best, and we are delighted to provide injections for men and women. Most commonly, we see men choose to treat forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines with Botox.

FAQS

How does Botox work?

Several factors can contribute to facial lines. Sun damage, cellular changes, collagen reduction, environmental pollution, repeated muscle contractions, and facial movements can collectively result in wrinkles and fine lines. Botox Cosmetic works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults.

How much time will my treatment take?

The injection itself can be administered in just 10 minutes! Our injector will always take time to discuss your goals and the two of you will work together to decide the best-individualized treatment plan before proceeding.

Will the injection hurt?

Most clients liken injections to a pinch. However, if you are concerned about the pain, the best thing you can do is communicate with your injector! At The Art of Aesthetics Med Spa, our specialists always apply a medical-grade topical numbing cream before the injection to make you comfortable during your treatment.

Will I see immediate results?

You can expect your Botox to take about seven days to see its effect. By two weeks after your Botox appointment, you will see the absolute best results.

How many units of Botox do I need?

No two faces are identical. Some people may need just 20 units while others may need 40 to get the desired effect. Having a consultation will determine what amount is best for you.

How long will my Botox results last?

Results vary from person to person. Typically results last up to four months. Your subsequent treatment is based on the results of your last appointment and your aesthetic goals.

What are the side effects associated with Botox injections?

Botox injections require minimal downtime, and you are free to return to your daily activities after your appointment with us. Possible side effects include redness, swelling, tiredness, or headache.

A modern view on Botox

Without a doubt, in recent years, Botox has become more of a household name. Its tried and true formal, when paired with a skilled injector, is allowing people all over the world to take back control of their appearance.

We say “good riddance” to the idea that Botox means less-than-life-like faces. Today, specialists like the ones here at Art of Aesthetics Med Spa know how to bring the life back into your skin. Remember, the goal of Botox is to help you look and feel like the best version of yourself!

Dr. Wassim Taktouk-an aesthetic doctor specializing in Botox-says “you’ll always have the ones who are obsessed with having no movement on their face,” he continues, “lack of facial movement isn’t particularly a youthful quality.” His goal for clients is to “soften the muscle, but not to knock out its movement entirely.”

Well said Dr. Wassim! Botox is something that can help so many turn back the clock in a subtle and natural-looking way.
